I then concurred in the Commodores
view that oneof the Gunboats might be recalled. The other
is still at Macao and will remain until December 10th. at
least. No further news has reached me up to the present
time.

I have today received a note from
Mr. Jamieson, Consul-General at Canton, of which I enclose
a copy. I have informed the Commodore that in my opinion
the Gunboat should remain at Macao for the present,
and
